About Websense Hybrid Email Security:
 |
Websense Hybrid Email Security combines
Websense Hosted Email Security (in the cloud)
and Websense Email Security (at the gateway). Layered email security achieves greater
efficiency, protection, and security while maximizing network resources.
- Improved network and cost efficiency
- Mitigate risk and realize ROI
- Use a single trusted vendor
|
Today’s email threats are more invasive and abundant than ever, and the nature of
these attacks is constantly changing. Modern businesses must deploy security
solutions that do more than block spam. A good messaging security solution
provides clear standards for mitigating risk, while also helping align with corporate
compliance and governance policies.
Websense Hosted Email Security filters spam and
viruses in the cloud, providing bandwidth and administrative
resource savings. On-premise Websense Email Security resides
at the gateway to provide granular outbound email
protection, allowing for finely tuned policies and an
optional second layer for inbound filtering. A hybrid
deployment gives you the bandwidth savings of a hosted
service combined with on-premise controls for granular email
content filtering.
- Improved network and cost efficiency – Increase bandwidth and reduce administrative time while keeping email policy control within the network
- Mitigate risk and realize ROI – Definitive levels of protection and visibility with drill-down, delegated policy and user-based reporting
- Use a single trusted vendor – Consolidate email security through Websense and receive support from a single point of contact
How it Works
Websense Hosted Email Security filters
spam and viruses at the Internet level,
saving on bandwidth, administration time,
and system resources.
On-premise Websense Email Security
resides at the gateway and provides
granular outbound email protection,
enabling organizations to configure finely
tuned policies for outbound filtering, as
well as an optional second layer for
inbound filtering. Powerful reporting tools
can be accessed by delegated users. Also,
they provide deep attachment inspection
to help with regulatory compliance.
Only a hybrid deployment offers the cost
savings of a hosted service combined with
on-premise policy controls for granular
email content filtering.

Key Benefits:
- Improved network and cost efficiency
Gain combined benefits from both deployment models, Websense Hosted
Email Security and on-premise Websense Email Security. Spam and viruses
are blocked before they reach the network, providing increased bandwidth,
resources, and improved performance, while ensuring confidential and
sensitive messages are kept within the network.
- Mitigated risk and exposure with demonstrated ROI
Websense Hosted Email Security provides definitive levels of email and virus
protection, providing SLA-backed uptime and visibility into emerging threat
trends and activities. On-premise Websense Email Security provides drill-down,
delegated policy- and user-based reporting with unparalleled visibility into
outbound email threats.
- Reduced total cost of ownership
Websense Hosted Email Security reduces the cost of bandwidth consumed
by spam, while freeing up time and system resources. Businesses regain
valuable hardware and administrative time to focus on other elements of
email security, including outbound policy enforcement and compliance.
- Reduced complexity through a unified solution
Consolidate email threat protection, compliance, and leak prevention through
a unified messaging security solution that blocks multiple types of email-based
threats at their point of origin.
- Consolidation through a single trusted vendor
Websense is a market leader in providing Web security, messaging security,
and data security to businesses worldwide. By consolidating inbound and outbound messaging security through Websense, organizations get support
from a single point of contact. Businesses may also broaden protection to
include Websense Web and data security, providing complete Websense
Essential Information Protection™.
Use Cases:
The following examples illustrate ways in which organizations can benefit from a
hybrid deployment.
Use Case #1: Hybrid messaging security keeps inbound and outbound threats
where they belong.
Keeping certain types of messages where they belong provides logical benefit:
Harmful messages should stay outside the network; sensitive and confidential
messages should stay inside the network. Hybrid messaging security keeps
potentially harmful email in its place.
In this scenario, Websense Hosted Email Security eliminates viruses, malware,
worms, spam, and other threats before they reach the network. On-premise
Websense Email Security prevents sensitive data from leaving the network via
email. For many customers, especially small- to medium-sized businesses, this
provides a good first step toward implementing a comprehensive data leak
prevention solution.
Use Case #2: Hybrid messaging security improves network and cost efficiency.
Websense Hosted Email Security can eliminate about 90% of inbound email
traffic. This is because roughly 90% of all email is spam. By blocking spam and
viruses before they reach the network, the burden of what is processed with Websense
Email Security is greatly reduced. The second benefit is that once the bulk of
the spam is eliminated, Websense Email Security can perform another screening of
the email through a second set of technology, helping to ensure the email is clean.
In this scenario, organizations improve the efficiency of their email processing as
well as ensure greater protection through multiple layers of messaging security.
The Websense messaging portfolio includes Websense Hosted Email Security, Websense Email Security,
and Websense Hybrid Email Security, a solution that combines layered hosted and on-premise security.
